Inspiring by John Elfreth Watkins, an American civil engineer, who had proposed 100 predictions about the future (year 2000) in 1900, BBC has been asking people to make predictions for 2112. They have futurologists Ian Pearson and Patrick Tucker to review the predictions.
They have sorted out 20 predictions so far which might come true in next 100 years:
- Oceans would be used as farms for fishes extensively. Also, oceans would be a huge source for energy etc.
- Telepathy might become true. People will be able to communicate using their mind with help of technology.
- With advanced DNA and robotic engineering, humans will be much more intelligent and long-living.
- Humans will be able to control the weather.
- Humans will be using resources of Antarctica.
- There will be a single world currency.
- Human mind will be connected to computers to make brains more powerful.
- Nano-robots would be flowing in human bodies fixing things.
- We will have sussed nuclear fusion.
- There will be only three languages, English, Spanish and Mandarin.
- Gay marriage will be allowed in 80% of the world.
- California state of USA will cause breakup of the USA.
- There will be ‘space elevators’ which will allow cheaper and easier space travelling.
- Women will be impregnated by artificial methods rather than by men.
- There will be museums for almost every aspect of nature, as so much of natural habitat will have been destroyed.
- Deserts will become tropical forests.
- Marriage will be replaced with contract based relationship for some certain period of time.
- Concept of one world will get stronger and Sovereign nation states will fade.
- Wars will have extensive use of remote control.
- Britain will have had a revolution.
